Final Fantasy Anthology Review

Picture
Picture
Final Fantasy Anthology was released in North America in 1999 and Europe in 2002 as a PlayStation exclusive title. It is also the first time Square Enix released a compilation and started porting over older Final Fantasy games to newer systems. You get Final Fantasy V which was only available in Japan for the Super Famicom. You also get the Final Fantasy VI a Super Nintendo title that was first released in 1994. But, when it comes to North American gamers it was called Final Fantasy III. If you are a fan of the gameplay style of the original Final Fantasy then both of these games are what you are looking for.

Outside of Japan most gamers did not know about Final Fantasy V. Places like North America and Europe did not get a chance to play this game until Final Fantasy Anthology was released. It is a turn based just like all other Final Fantasy games, but it has a strong focus on the job class system, and it could be the best use of the job class system in any game we have ever played. At anytime any of the playable characters can be anything you want. Need a healer then change some into a White Mage or a Red Mage, need more muscle change someone into a Knight or Lancer. Need more magic attack then you can turn someone into a Black Mage or a Summoner. After you max out a job class then you can use their abilities when you change them into another job. So you can be a Ninja that can summon monsters. It is a great system and if you buy a newer version for Android or iOS you get even more job classes to try.

Final Fantasy VI was a Super Nintendo game originally and it was call Final Fantasy III at the time. Many think not only is FFVI the best Final Fantasy RPG but the best RPG of all time! The updated battle system allows each person in your group to have a different way to attack that is connected to their character development. You also have the ability to give any playable character all of the magic and summing powers that the has to offer. We have played many versions of this game. From the original to the digitally updated and we still would play another updated version when and if it gets released.

Each of these Final Fantasy games are 40+ hour RPGs. Each of them also have high replay value because of the well-developed storylines and character development. If you are a completionist when it comes to video games then you are looking at over 70+ hours for each game. We still like the console PlayStation versions the best but you will be happy with the game collection on any platform.
