Final Fantasy V Review | January 27, 2014
Windows, Android, iOS, PlayStation

Final Fantasy V is a turn based RPG and it was only available in Japan for a long time. Then Final Fantasy Anthology was released in North America for the PS1 in 1999 and then Europe in 2002. FFV is in the same style as FFVI . There is something wrong with the crystals that control the world’s four elements. Lenna’s farther the King heads over to the Wind Shrine to figure out what is going on. While he is there a huge meteor crashes into the kingdom and people start to wonder it the two instances are related.

FFV is a bit of a hidden gem. You get four of your five main playable characters with in the first 20 minutes but you can only play four at a time and you will only have four members in your party at a time. The games RPG elements returns to the job class system. There are 22 jobs in total (more in the newer computer versions) to find throughout the game and you will mostly find several of them at once. The best part is that all members can be any of the job class. Yes, at any time you can change their powers. If you already have a Knight that you have powered them up as far as they go, then switch to a Summoner or a Red Mage. Maxing out gives you more ways to attack and powers to combine but it also allow you to use that that jobs power even if you switch to a different job class. A Ninja can use White Magic or Time Magic if you have maxed out the White or Time Mages powers. It creates great balance during combat and makes you want to put the time in to power up all characters with every job class. After everybody is fully powered up then you can start to create strategies on how you will defeat the two optional super bosses Omega and Shinryu. FFV is one of the first games to introduce these super powered opponents to an audience. They are really tough and it will take tons of leveling up and more than one try to beat them.

Once again this game was almost missed out on because it was only released in  Japan at first. Which would have been terrible because it is one of the best classic turn based RPG’s that has ever been created and in the argument for best Final Fantasy game ever made. It took us almost 40 hours to get through the main story and that is not counting finding the extra hidden stuff (there are several hidden rooms, false walls and optional super bosses). Final Fantasy V does have huge replay value. If you leveled up everybody in all job classes you will still want to play through the story again in a different save file. But, keep trying to get your team strong enough to take on Omega and Shinryu in your first game save file (don't mix them up). The game is under $10 and worth every penny plus it goes on sale a lot on the anniversary of the first Final Fantasy game being released. Spend the money you will enjoy the game plus this is a must own game for all classic gamer.
