Mega Man 2 Review | October 7, 2016
Xbox, Windows, iOS, PlayStation, Nintendo

Mega Man 2 is a 2D action platformer and is the direct sequel to Mega Man. It is known as Rockman in Japan but the US audience got their hands on it for the first time in 1988 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. For a long time you could only play the game on a classic Nintendo but there have been several collection released for PlayStation, Computers, Xbox and from Nintendo eshop. The Mega Man Legacy Collection for Xbox One, Windows PC, Nintendo DS and PlayStation 4 is the most recent HD updated version. Currently there is not a lot of places to buy just one game in the series. It is the year 2004 in the world of Mega Man and Dr. Wily has returned with 8 new (not 6) robot masters: Metal Man, Air Man, Bubble Man, Quick Man, Crash Man, Flash Man, Heat Man, and Wood Man. With New upgrades and Dr. Light helping him out Mega Man must fight his way through all 8 robots before he can take on Dr. Wily.

Mega Man 2 is the start of how all of the Mega Man and Mega Man X games are made. 8 different robots instead of 6 and you start to get items and little power ups during the game and not just after you defeat a boss. There is a Jet Power Hover Sled, a spring that allows you to jump really high and floating platforms three of them that allows you cross gaps. These three things are all new to the series and there is some form of them in other Mega Man games.

The new power ups and Robot Master weaknesses along with the when and where you unlock these new items will make what order you take on the robots matter. Woodman is weak against fire and sawblades power ups for example but when do you get the jet sled making it easier to get through certain areas and get locked up energy packs and free guys? The items add a little more strategy.

Mega Man 2 took use between 5 and 7 hours to get through and it has a lot of replay. Having played several copies we never get tired of it. The original NES is still so difficult we can’t believe that any of us had the persistence to beat the game in are youth. Newer versions now have easier modes but you can still play it in all of its original crazy ass difficulty if you want to. Plus even to this day we really like the final level. It could still be our favorite Meg Man final level. Mega Man 2 is worth paying $5.00 or under for. If you find it under the $2.99 price point it is a MUST BUY PRICE!
