Tales from the Borderlands is an episodic single player game from Telltale. It is in the same style as The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead. It is the fourth game in the series and takes place after Borderlands 2. How you play the game determines how the story progresses and how other characters interact with you. There are two people jump between as you play. Rhys a Hyperion employee who was just screwed out of a promotion and Fiona a con artist who lives on Pandora. He wants to steal a Vault Key from his Boss Vasquez and she just happens to have the Vault Key they are looking for.

We found Tales from the Borderlands entertaining from beginning to end. We are fans of the way Telltale makes games but even if you have never played anything that they have made you like the journey. If you are a fan of Telltale then you know that mostly they are very serious, just look at The Walking Dead series, The Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones. Tales from the Borderlands however is filled with humor in multiple ways. It is very light hearted at its core and for a game that is Rated M for Mature it’s even funny when somebody gets taken out. The entire game is brilliantly written and is supported by great voice talent. Patrick Warburton from TV shows like Seinfeld and Family Guy play a major role as one of the villains and helps deliver spot on humor.

There are two main characters and you jump back and forth between them often. It may sound confusing but it is not. Rhys works for the corporation Hyperion and dreams of being the next Handsome Jack the former leader of Hyperion. When playing as Rhys he has an implant called the ECHO eye that allows him to scan things and find out more information. Fiona is a pickpocket/thief/con-artist and is very good at all three. She has got the money and there are several different ways she increases her cash that can only be done while playing her. All the characters are funny, there is even three robots that are part of your group that are relatable and have deep story development.

Tales from the Borderlands took us 10 to 12 hours to get through and has a really high replay value. Even after you’re done you still want to replay choosing different paths to get funnier lines. It had us laughing a lot! If you have not played any Borderlands games you will not miss out on much. There are a few references you may not understand but it does not hurt the experience. Truthfully the ones of us who played Borderlands want to go back and play some more and the ones who have never played the series wanted to try it out. We had a great time discovering this game. The story is great, the writing and voice acting is superb and the action sequences have amazing controls. It has this perfect balance between action, making decisions on what direction to go and sitting back and watching the story unfold. Easily worth the $30.00 new game asking price, if you find it under $15.00 it is a MUST BUY PRICE! Tales from the Borderlands is written so well that it could be made into an animated series!
