Lair of the Shadow Broker is a DLC pack for Mass Effect 3 and you need to have that game in order to play it. In the first Mass Effect you heard about a questionable figure called the Shadow Broker who deals in information. He or she is rumored to be behind selling any info to anybody who has the money regardless of who they are or what they might do with this information. Liara has been hunting who ever this Shadow Broker is even before she god involved with Sheppard. There is also the matter of another person that is part of Liara life that the Shadow Broker has kidnapped named Feron. For two years she has been trying to find the secret base and with Sheppard’s help she thinks that she has finally found the trail and now is ready to finally take on the Shadow Broker.

This is the first DLC pack that takes place after you have already taken on the Collectors and beat the main storyline of the game. The gameplay is exactly the same as it is in Mass Effect 2 and you mostly do a lot of 3rd person shooting with only a few small puzzles to figure out here and there. This is easily the best DLC you can buy for ME2 and it also adds some changes to the storyline elements and adds new information that has an effect in Mass Effect 3. First, buying Lair of the Shadow allows you to continue your relationship with Liara if you choose to and if you start one in Mass Effect. Second, if you are a storyline gamer and like character development then you will like what you find here. After you finish the DLC you get access to all of the files that the Shadow Broker has on every member of your squad and info on other people in the Mass Effect universe. The only thing that we did not like is that you have to read most of it.

There are four new areas you will explore or shoot your way through and it took us between 2 and 3 hours to get through all of the dialog and combat but that does not include reading over all of the information that you find in the Shadow Brokers computers. You also get to find out how did Sheppard’s body end up in the hands of Cerberus in the first place (or you can look up Mass Effect: Redemption to get even more information). $10 is not bad and you will not be disappointed but the good news is that Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC for Mass Effect 2 goes on sale often for less than $5 and at that price it is a must buy. For you PS3 owners it is already included on the disk even if it is a used copy!
