Xbox, Windows

Picture
In Fable Anniversary you get a HD upgrade, a return to Albion and your struggle with Jack of Blades. On the day of your sister’s birthday a group of bandits raid and attack your village but you survive and are found by a man named Maze. He brings you to the Heroes' Guild where you begin your training. After spending years learning from the heroes in the guild you are finally ready to return to your village and try to find out what happened and if the rumors are true that your sister may still be alive.

This game is an exact remake of the original Fable and it does look great in HD. Right from the start when Whisper makes her appearance we remember how the game is going to play out depending on what choices we make and what our first main mission was going to be. We still love the RPG elements and upgrades in this game. You can use augmentations to enhance any weapon that has a slot to increase its power. If you want a Bow and Arrow with the power of Silver, Fire and gives you extra experience with every hit, then you can upgrade the weapon as long as it has three slots. This is true for every weapon in the game that you can augment. The magic and melee combat all work really well but for some reason whenever you are trying to lock on to a foe with the bow it will aim at the wrong person or in many cases aim at an innocent villager. It does not happen every time but it does happens often and it drove us nuts.

The main story is only about 15 hours but this game is designed around doing side missions because you work for a guild that has people come in and hire you to do certain jobs. Some are good like protect a convoy and some are bad like attack and rob the convoy. This is where you decided if you are going down a good path or bad. Fable Anniversary comes close to the 30 hour mark over all. Remember the DLC Fable The Lost Chapters is also included in your purchase. The only real problem is the price. $40 is asking a lot for this game. Does the game look great in the new HD version, yes but you can still download the original Fable game for $10. We played both games and the Xbox version of Fable still looks and plays really well and remember Fable Anniversary is a HD upgrade of the exact same game. If you own a copy of Fable keep it. Paying $40 to get Fable Anniversary is not worth the extra money. If you buy Fable Anniversary keep your price under $30, it works at that price point but you should still try the original game.
