Sacred 3 Review | August 17, 2014
Xbox, Windows, PlayStation

Sacred 3 is a top down hack and slash brawler. There is a single and multiplayer mode and each are about the same but if you die in single player mode it is game over and you load from you last checkpoint but in multiplayer and co-op as long is somebody is still alive you can just continue playing and pick up where you left off. You get to choose from four different characters each fight mainly the same with the exception of one who fights from and distance with a bow and arrow. Sacred 3 tries to take the game series in a different direction but it does not hit on enough key elements to make you want to return to the land of Ancaria to often and keep playing.

Sacred 3 does not have any identity. It is a little bit dungeon crawler, MMO, hack and slash, action RPG and multiplayer but it does not commit to any of them. The story is cookie cutter and boring and the voice acting over all is horrible. Some evil is trying to take over the world blah, blah, blah. Even worst if you are playing as one of the female characters the dialog comes off as a little offensive and degrading in our opinion. The game overall is so bad that while we were playing Sacred 3 we decided to check the website and there were sections of it that said “Coming Soon”. The game is already out the site is still not done? The RPG parts of the game are weak and there is very little customization to any weapons, spells or armor. You level up and some of your stats go up and that is about it. The game can be completed in less than 10 hours.

The sad part is there are parts of the game we really liked. The controls are perfect and right on the money every time. There are multiple ways to attack and some finishing moves happen quick and the controls backed it up. The only control issues was with the archer. He fights from a distance and has no real melee combat to him. We had fun playing Sacred 3 but the game is way too short, it has very low replay value in both single player or online and there is not enough game here to keep your attention for long and remember you can do all of the story and extra missions in less than 10 hours. Keep your price under $15. Even if you are going to play it over and over with friends online it is not worth paying more than that.
