Young Justice Legacy Review | January 2, 2014
Xbox, Windows, PlayStation, Nintendo

Young Justice is an action beat’em up in the same style as X-men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. You can play in single player or mutiplayer online co-op with a friend. There are 36 levels and you get 12 playable members of the Young Justice League from the start (many are unlocked as you go forward). You get to use your superheroes power and upgrade them just like the RPG elements in Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The main problem is that Young Justice is just not any good, even the powers are just terrible and they are all the same and have no real impact on the combat. Young Justice Legacy is a perfect example why we dislike most games that are superhero based.

The first thing that you notice is that the graphics look like they are from a mid-90’s PC game. None of the backgrounds or any of the things on screen have any depth or detail to them. The game is also really lite on both story and dialog. The voice acting is out of rhythm with what is going on during cut scenes. The controls are very sloppy and are unresponsive. So many times during combat you start to get hit and you can’t move or jump or block because the controller takes too long to respond. The combat is just the same thing over and over. The fighting gets worse if you are using a Young Justice member that is holding a weapon. After you attack three times they will start to put their weapon away, so there is this pause that happens when you go to attack the next guy because they have to take their weapon out to hit them. Just hit the same button while walking around areas that look exactly the same as an area you just left and if you want to you can just run by everyone and not fight them at all. Then you get to boss battles, most are well know foes like Bane and you find out that they are either way to boring and easy or they are frustrating and pointless hard and makes you want to stop playing.

It get worse, there are parts of the game where it looks like it is not finished. The game reuses storytelling animation sequences, there are sound effects that are missing, there are objects to destroy that never have anything in them and treasure to open but it does not tell you what you found. The whole game is like this, they just rushed it out the door and slapped a superhero name on it to try and steal your money. Even the RPG elements are a mess, if you level up you can’t upgrade until after you finish a level but if you die you have to restart way to far back and in some cases the beginning of the level, even if you were almost at the end. Your partner AI will not revive fallen allies and sometimes the AI will just die because they walk into traps and laser fences. This becomes more or a problem on levels where it is one hit and you die. The whole game is a giant waste and a huge disappointment, even the music and ending just fails. This is a $10 game at best or just play X-men Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance some more.
