Being able to find many of the classic games from PS1 and the PS2 on PlayStation Network is a main reason to buy a PlayStation system. Stella Deus The Gate of Eternity is a PS2 exclusive game that came out in 2004. This tactical RPG from and it is in the same style as Final Fantasy Tactics and Fire Emblem. There are not too many tactical role-playing games out there at all and it is a game style that seems to get ignored for a long periods of time. The world of Solum is slowly being taken over by a fog called the Miasma and is killing the land. Some people believe that the death of the planet is gods will, while others have taken over villages and towns and installed a survival of the fittest lifestyle. You are Spero a young man who is stuck in the middle working for a man who is trying to save the world even though he answers to a horrible dictator.

The thing that stands out the most about this game is the art style. The whole game from the story scenes to the combat has this beautiful watercolor look. We were unable to think of another game that looks like it. This is a grid style tactical RPG and there are 21 characters to find and get to join your party. This is one of the early games that has an action points combat system. You can attack or use magic and items as many times as you want as long as you have enough action points, plus you get to use team attacks and there are some combinations that are better than others some change you team often.

Even though you get to have 21 people on your team you can only use six at a time and we do not like this at all. Most tactical role-playing games are like this but that is no excuse. In Vandal Hearts you get to use all of your characters at the same time making the game a huge version of chess. Stella Dues for some reason has random levels that are frustrating hard after fighting several battles in a row. So if you die at the last battle, you have to fight all of them in a row again. This happens early, like the 3rd fight in the game. Voice acting is 50/50, some of the actors are really good but some don’t get it. The main voice actor who plays Spero is a perfect example when he needs to be mad it does not work but when he needs to be earnest he is perfect. This is a very underrated game and as we said before there are not a lot of tactical role-playing games out there and many of them are just OK or not good. This game is one of the better ones. It took us 37 to 40 hours to finish the main story but add in all the extra dungeons we almost hit the 70 hour mark. We did like the game but we do wish for a little more story. Stella Dues The Gate of Eternity is worth spending $10.00 for. The good news is that it goes on sale all the time in PlayStation Network between $1.99 to $4.99. And, since PlayStation is the only place you can buy this game, having it go on sale a lot is good news for gamers.
