Streets of Rage Sega Vintage Collection has all three games in the series. Streets of Rage is an arcade inspired styled action beat’em up. They have a lot is common with arcade games like Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Golden Axe but it is mostly compared to Final Fight. At the time you could only play Streets of Rage if you own a Sega system in the mid 1980’s to the mid 1990’s but now there are several way to buy and play the series. The foundation of the story and main characters of all three games are the same. A criminal organization call the Syndicate headed by a man called Mr. X is trying to take over the city and install their own rule of law. Three individuals Adam Hunter an accomplished Boxer, Axel Stone skilled Martial Artist and Blaze Fielding a Judo expert decided to clean up the streets and take on the Syndicate on their own.

The Streets of Rage series is really good at expanding the world in which it is created and increasing the amount of people to choose from who are on your side battling the Syndicate and Mr X.. Axel, Adam and Blaze may start the struggle in the first game but new playable characters get introduced in each game and the core three members are always part of the story. We had no real issues with the game mechanics at all but for a few problems. In the original game we had an issue with trying to catch up and get into a position to hit someone. It does happen often where all of your enemies can just simply out run you and you can’t land a punch. Also, In Streets of Rage 3 it is really difficult to get through the game in single player. It has more gameplay than the other two games combined but not being able to beat the game on your own because you run out of continues just seems way out dated and pointless. Those are the only real problems we found with the Streets of Rage Collection.

Overall there is somewhere between 3 and 4 hours of gaming here with all three games and there is a very high replay value. But, if you just want one game we recommend Streets of Rage 2. It has great controls, several different endings, extremely high replay value and it is fun and challenging in single and multiplayer modes and you want to try out all of the different difficulty levels. It is also the only game that is available on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, iOS and PC as a download. This could be because it is such a great game on its own. The Streets of Rage Vintage Sega Collection is worth paying $10.00 or under for and you might be stuck with that price because we can’t remember every seeing it on sale. If you are a Retro Gamer you do need to own or played at least one of the Streets of Rage games.
