Super Contra is a run and gun 2D shooter. It is the sequel to the NES classic Contra and the second game in the series timeline. Contra was one of the best reasons to buy a Nintendo Entertainment System back it day. Everybody who as raised on Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start knows that. So when Super Contra or Super C was released in arcades and for the NES gamers were loved it. The original version was in need of a update so in 2007 a new updated version was released for Xbox and PC's.
The concept of the game is simple, protect the earth from aliens. This is not the Nintendo version that came out during the late 1980’s. The 2D side scrolling action shooter is a HD remake of the original. We are sad to say that the game is just not that good. It does not feel like old Contra and it does not feel like updated HD good Contra either. Graphically it just seems out of place. It looks like stretched out 16 bit SNES game. Your character on screen just seems too big when you compare it to the rest of the images and background. The game is $5.00 but that is even too high considering that you can go from start to finish in less than 15 minutes. We mean it, we double checked and found that someone on YouTube beat the game in seven minutes and twelve seconds, it only took us less than an half an hour. This is more like a mini game and you will want to wait for a 99 cent or $1.99 sale before you buy the game, if you buy the game. Super Contra remake is way below an average video game.
