House of the Dead III Review | May 1, 2013
Xbox, Windows, PlayStation, Nintendo

This game looks older than it is. House of the Dead III is an arcade rail shooter that was released in 2002. This is a very fast paced shooter with lots of different things going on all at once and you must be fast in order to take down everything coming at you. After all this time the game is still fun but very short when it comes to the length of the game. In a post-apocalyptic 2019 is when the game is set, 21 years after the outbreak in Curien Mansion in the first game. G is searching for his partner Thomas Rogan who is missing. Along with Lisa Rogan his partners daughter are set to face the horror once more.

When we found this game was available for download we were pleasantly surprise. We like rail shooters and wish that more game companies would make new good ones but a classic from our past will do for now. This game does not have a lot of flash to it. There are no other weapons just the one you start the game with and you can’t upgrade it. The weapon works just fine because the aiming is good, it packs enough punch and it reloads fast. Speaking of fast, that is how we would describe this game. It is not fancy just start shooting the zombies and reload. Bosses are fun and some are difficult and some chase you through the whole level, which is cool. The action is fast and intense and all you do is shot the zombies. If you die you just restart at the exact same point.

The bad part of the game is that it is really short. You could sit down and you or you and another player could beat the game in under an hour. You do die a fair amount but having unlimited continues keeps the action going. The game is fun and you will just sit down and replay it over and over again to try out the different paths and get all three endings but a game that is less than an hour long you need to spend less than $3.00 so you don’t feel like you got ripped off. Once again there is replay value here because the game is easy to pick up and play and easy to beat. We love being able to turn the zombies blood green, for some reason it makes things more fun! Remember it is only one hour long!
