Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens is an 3D action platformer but it is also equal part third person shooter. This is the forth Lego Star Wars game since Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga was at first two different games covering the two earlier trilogies. This game follows the story of The Force Awakens. It starts out right at the end of Episode VI Return of the Jedi and the destruction of the Death Star. The Empire has fallen because of the defeat of Emperor Palpatine and the death of Darth Vader. That was 30 years ago and now a new threat has risen. The First Order emerged from what was left of the Empire is endangering what the Republic has built. Where is Luke Skywalker?

Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens surprised us in many really great ways. There are a lot of these Lego game out there now and we were starting to feel like maybe they have run their course and was out of surprises. This series is mainly known for its platform elements and The Force Awakens does not disappoint. The landscape and backdrop that the platforming is designed around is amazing. Game mechanics are perfect the camera is always in right where you need it to be. There are tons of things to destroy, Lego coins all over the place and Lego building has been updated. Super-fast Lego building is now the norm and now there are several things to make with one set of Lego blocks. You build something, destroy what you built and then build something else. Incredibly fun and many of it is optional, so it is up to you if you want to find track now the secret red blocks of the or the 10 mini kits on each level to unlock more things.

The big change and truthfully the main selling point of the game are the shooting elements. First there is this run for cover system where you pop and drop your opponents. You pop out from behind cover and then you drop a storm trooper. It plays like Syphon Filter Dark Mirror or dare we say it Gears of War. But, those game are rated M for Mature and Lego The Force Awakens is clearly not. The second huge change is the space ship shooting levels. Flying X-Wings, Tie Fighters and the Millennium Falcon are even better than you think. We love the flying levels so much that we continuously ignored the mission objectives so we could play the levels for as long as we could. Star Fox Zero could have learned a lot from the flying space ship missions. There are spectacular and the game worth buying just based on them. Some of them are open world where you can go where you want but some are more like an arcade shooter were it takes you to the end point and you just have to shoot and avoid crashing into things.

Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens took us almost 12 to get through and we had a 40% game completion rate and it has a huge replay value. Even after we were done we wanted to keep playing and start doing all of the extra stuff. There are several unlockable levels to play. You can take Poe and C3PO and rescue Admiral Ackbar or you can go hunting for Rathtars with Han Solo and Chewbacca just to name two. It depends on how many gold bricks you unlock. We also like the puzzle solving slower paced levels like when Ray is searching for the Light Saber. Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens is worth paying a new game price of $50.00 to $60.00, and we will never underestimate the series again. If you find it on sale for under $20.00 it is a MUST BUY PRICE for all gamers!
