Mass Effect Trilogy Review | February 25, 2013
Xbox, Windows, PlayStation

We love these game bundles and Mass Effect Trilogy is the best. Yes, that’s right all three games. It’s about time video games got its own trilogy bragging rights. There is a reason why the Mass Effect have won so many awards, each game in the series gets better than the earlier ones. The long engaging storylines, politics and romance cause everything from friction to friendships depending on your choices. The gameplay works and combat elements like aiming, shooting and camera have no issues. Mass Effect controls are a little off sometimes but Mass Effect 2 and 3 are perfect. You will spend 80+ hours in these three games and that is not including DLC. The Mass Effect series is a perfect place to spend your gaming time even if you don't like shooters or RPG's!

Mass Effect is a third person shooter that is also a RPG. Having played all three games back to back to back and we noticed something. Each game feels different while being able to still be familiar. Mass Effect has this false sense of security like everything is alright but something is off. Nobody is really questioning where all of this technology that the galaxy has found came from or who created it and why is it here.

The second game is filled with turmoil and confusion. You never really know if you are doing the right thing. Can you really trust Cerberus and the Illusive Man and why has the Council and the Alliance done nothing since the Reaper Sovereign attacked the Citadel? Who and what are the Collectors and why after hundreds of years are they showing up now and attacking. What happen to the person you had a relationship with from the first Mass Effect (if you decided to have one). Is there something worth fighting for after being gone for so long or are you going to move on with your life with someone else. These are the questions that Sheppard is asking while everything is going on.

The third and final game has this sense of overwhelming doom. The problems that everybody around Sheppard have been ignoring has finally blown up. Now everybody must be brutally honest at all times with them self before we all die because we did not stand together. The classic romantic notion of fighting for a lost cause because you believe something or someone can save you. Having the games feel different makes you want to play all three games several times. The part we like the most is the game similarities . The 3rd person gameplay gets better each game and each game has different puzzles and ways of doing things so it is not just the same game with better graphics. Even the easy and hard modes have balance. Easy is not to easy and super difficult mode is fun and challenging. So much fun, a couple hundred hours of gameplay here if you go through as both male and female Sheppard both as Paragon (good) and Renegade (bad). It took us about 87 hours the first time to get through all three games during story mode. The voice acting works brilliantly, the writing and story make sense and you will want to own this trilogy not just play it. It is easily worth buying even at a new game price tag of $60.00 so just buy it and play it but make sure you have the time to finish the entire trilogy. More Mass Effect games after this one please!
