Point Lookout Review | January 27, 2015
Xbox, Window, PlayStation

Picture
Point Lookout is a playable DLC pack for Fallout 3. You can play it in first person or third person and is the fourth DLC pack for the game and you do not have to finish the main story first, you can play Point Lookout at any time. Point Lookout State Park in Maryland was not hit by the bombs during the Great War but the area has been left behind. Now it is a forgotten swamp filled with people who have been affected by the radiation but not heavily mutated like some other areas. Having been on their own for so long the swampy wasteland is filled with people called swamp folk, some good and have found a way to make in it on their own but some will just attack you with shovels and guns.

There is now real underlining goal here it is just a new area to explore. This is not just a section added to the map you already have, it is a huge new area to wonder around and scavenge. It is about one-fifth the size of full Fallout 3 map. There are some fun story elements to play through, new items and weapons and some smaller side missions. Like for example, there are two scientists that have been fighting since the Great War happen over 200 years ago. Professor Calvert has survived as a living brain in a jar all this time and the other one named Desmond Lockheart is a ghoul. You have to pick one to side with each having giving you a reason to go with them. There is also a quest to retrace the final resting place of a long dead Chinese spy that is rumored to have lived out his life somewhere in the park and took some secrets with him to the grave.

There is over 5 hours of content to play through and a pretty large area to explore. The replay value is a little below average, once you do ever mission there is now reason to do it anymore or return to the park. It is worth the $5 right now but all the DLC and even Fallout 3 goes on sale all of the time under the $3 price point for DLC packs and under $5 for Fallout 3 itself. You will enjoy it even at full price.
