Xbox, Windows, iOS, Android, PlayStation, Nintendo

Minecraft Story Mode is an episodic point-and-click graphic adventure game from Telltale games and is in the same style as Tales from the Borderlands and Game of Thrones. Minecraft is a huge game franchise on its own. There are millions of Minecraft users, so having a game that centers around their unique style worked very well. The Endercon Building Competition and Festival is upcoming and Jesse a builder is entering the competition. Olivia, Axel and their pet pig Reuben are all joining his crew. This year a special gust will be there. Gabriel, a member of the legendary Order of the Stone and the winner of the building competition will actually get to me him!

At the start of Minecraft Store Mode you get to decide if you want to play as a male of female lead. The big selling point for choosing a male lead is because he is voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt. He does bring legitimacy to the game as far as entertainment value. Creating even more entertainment are the additional characters and the voices behind them. Fellow comedian Brian Posehn also has a major role in the game. The two of them have tour together often and are funny to hear their voices coming out of the characters. John Hodgmen from the Daily Show, Billy West voiced Philip J. Fry from Futurarma and Ashley Johnson who voiced Ellie in The Last of Us round out the cast.

You may think just because Minecraft Story Mode is rated E10 for Everyone that the choices do not have consequences or not as direr but you would be wrong. Choices make huge changes to the story and many times you may not know why until much later in the game. Since Jesse is a builder you do end up doing some building and it is funny to see and we loved speeding up and slowing down just for the fun of it. It is a bit like Lego games where super-fast build makes you laugh. This game also uses the camera in unique ways. There are certain angles that only make sense because of Minecraft.

Minecraft Story Mode took us between 10 and 12 hours and the replay value is about average. There is a few areas where making a different chose will send you to a new section of the game that you would have missed the first time through. If you buy the Minecraft Story Mode it says “season pass” but that is a little miss leading. The season pass only gets you episode 2-5 (episode 1 is free). The first story is episodes 1-4 and episode 5 is the beginning of a new storyline that takes place after Story Mode. So remember in this instance season pass does not give the entire collection of Minecraft episodes. Minecraft Story Mode is worth paying the already introduction discount price of $19.99 and if your find it under $10.00 it is a MUST BUY PRICE! We like everything here. It made us laugh, it made us want to keep playing and it made us want to play episodes 6-8 to find out how it all ends.
