Resident Evil 3 Review | October 29, 2012
PlayStation, Windows, Nintendo

In Resident Evil 3 you are back to playing Jill Valentine from the first Resident Evil. The early part of this game takes place 24 hours before Resident Evil 2 and the second half takes place 2 days after. You get to find out how Jill escapes Raccoon City. This is also the game that you get introduced to the hired mercenary Carlos and the STARS kill machine Nemesis that was created by Umbrella to hunt and destroy all STARS members and anyone helping them even other members of Umbrella. The final pieces of the puzzle are finally here of how the outbreak happen in Raccoon City and what Umbrella knows!

A mutated named Nemesis has been dropped into Raccoon city and he has one main goal find and destroy all STARS members. He can just show up anywhere and in many cases you can’t avoid him, you have to find a way to deal with him. If you are running down an ally and he is blocking the way he will chase after you and then wait for you if you run into a building. He is by far harder to deal with and scarier than any of the other Resident Evil monsters before. This game also gives you choices. Do you run into the building or do you fight Nemesis? Do you jump off the bridge or do you hit the switch. It changes the gameplay enough to make you want to replay the situations and find out what happens if you choose option B instead of option A.

It has a great story and the voice acting is better but it still has parts that are a little off and funny but that adds to the charm of past memories . After you beat the game for the first time there is a new game mode called “The Mercenaries Operation: Mad Jackal". Essentially you get to play as different member of the Mercenaries team and try to get from one point to another before time runs out. The point of this is to make enough money to buy unlimited ammo for you weapons even the rocket launcher making defeating Nemesis a breeze and increasing the replay value. Once again we still love this game. With the mix reactions for Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City and Resident Evil 6 maybe you should introduce or reintroduce yourself to the roots of this franchise.  Hopefully at some point in time Capcom will be able to release this and the other two resident evil games for the Xbox 360 and the Wii U. Until then PS3 and PC owners you are the only ones to have access to Resident Evil 3. There are GameCube versions of the game that will work in your Nintendo Wii. The game took us a little over 10 hours and the replay value is really high because of the unlimited ammo Mercenaries game that takes a good 10 hours to get enough money to buy everything. Worth every penny of the $6 price tag on PlayStation Network but it goes on sale all the time for under that price, even at cheap as $1. This a must own for any retro gamer.
