Resident Evil 4 Review | May 7, 2013
Xbox, Windows, iOS, Android, PlayStation, Nintendo

Picture
When we heard that Resident Evil 4 would not have zombies in the way we know them, no Umbrella corporation, no Raccoon City and a complete change in how the combat is done we were scared to death that one of our favorite series of would be over. Instead we got outstanding a storyline, perfect action sequences, challenging boss battles and the best Resident Evil game ever made even still. This game is so good that ever 3rd person over the shoulder shooter copies what this RE4 does. Gears of War, Dead Space and Mass Effect get their shooting style from this flawless game called Resident Evil 4.

The Umbrella Corporation is no more and Leon now works directly for the President of the United States and is sent on a mission to rescue Ashley the President’s daughter from a cult who has kidnapped her but we don’t know why. Leon is attacked by very aggressive and violent villagers almost as soon as he enters the country. Resident Evil 4 is a shooter mostly but it also has some quick time hand to hand combat if your foes get to close and there are lots of button pushing mini games. They happen not just during combat but during actions sequences, cut scenes, and over the top boss battles.

The combat is perfect no issues with aiming, cameras, controls, even during the most intense action, everything works perfect. Boss battles and mini boss battles are all fun and you will go out of your way to fight them even when you don’t have to, that is how good they are. Plus, the more bosses you defeat the more money you get and the more weapons you have to buy and upgrade. Even the regular foes like zombies and creatures are appealing to fight and they like to sneak up behind you. You never feel safe and that is what a survival horror game is supposed to be. The game is huge, there are a lot of different areas to explore. Each one is different and each one gives you new enemies to fight and more background information about the cult that has taken Ashley. Voice acting and storylines are both some of the best we have seen. We have only praise for this game, Resident Evil 4 changed the industry.

The first time through it takes about 25 hours to find everything. There are hidden things everywhere. The replay value is as high as a game can be and you will want to replay over and over. Being able to keep your upgrade weapons is a huge plus in the replay category. It is easily the best Resident Evil game so far and is still in the top ten or top five video games of all time. Taking big chances sometimes has a big payoff. If this game just got released for the first time today it would still be worth the brand new game price. Just buy it and enjoy it!
