Bioshock Infinite Review | April 7, 2013
Xbox, Windows, OS X, PlayStation

Bioshock has taken brilliant chances from day one breaking away from what other developers are doing with not only 1st person shooters but storylines too. Their games take place in eras not explored, plus they use great design. Once again Bioshock Infinite takes you some place that other games won’t go and takes a dynamic idea and executes it flawlessly from beginning to end . The game takes place in 1912. You are Booker Dewitt and you owe money to bad people. You are given a assignment do one job, “Bring us the girl and wipe away the debt." The girls name is Elizabeth and she has been locked up her whole life in a floating city called Columbia. Columbia was once part of the United States but decided to seceded from the United States after the Civil War.

WOW, all games should be worried about how good everything is in Bioshock Infinite. There is no combat for about an hour but when the fighting starts it is very smooth and is easy to pick up and play. The powers here are called vigors and they require having enough salt to use them. You can use forms of fire and lighting plus some different stuff like attack your enemies with crows and take over their bodies so they fight on your side. Early on in the game you do come across Elizabeth who is the women you are sent to retrieve. She does not know why she has been lock up and more importantly why she can see and create tears in space and time. She uses this power during combat by opening up tears that give you better cover, ammo, health and allies when you are being attacked. The best part is you do not have to worry about protecting here during the game. She can protect herself so the game is not just on big escort mission. Elizabeth can also pick locks to let you into areas, she finds and gives you health and salt during combat and money and lock-picks when not in combat.

We love that Booker and Elizabeth have this constant dialog. They are always trying to figure out how and why things are happening. The conversations between them also fills in a lot of plot points and creates an understanding of what is going on in Columbia, so pay attention. You could miss some background information about Booker, Elizabeth, Columbia, or the two mysterious people that seem to be following you around and appearing out of nowhere. The voice acting is outstanding across the board and for such a serious game there is some surprising humor. The chances Bioshock Infinite takes and the uniqueness of this game will make you want to keep playing. From using the skyhook and skyline as a form of travel to how different the bad guys are compared to everything else out there. Intelligent writing, a satisfying ending and plot twists followed up with 17 plus hours of gameplay the first time through and tons and tons of replay ability makes the game a must have. The only thing that we did not like was that you could only carry two different weapons at a time but not a big deal because you can pick up weapons often. There is a difference between games you want to play and games you want to own. You must buy this game for any and all gamers, price is not an issue.
