Bioshock Ultimate Rapture Edition Review | October 27, 2011
Xbox 360, Windows, PlayStation 3

Bioshock has been our favorite 1st person shooter for a while now. The games have great storylines, unique locations and even after playing the games over and over again it still finds ways to scare us. The first two games take place in a underwater city called Rapture during the 1960’s. A world created to escape the battle between The United States and capitalism and the U.S.S.R.’s communism. Now years later the city has been forgotten but there are still people living down there and the entire city has slowly imploded and  Andrew Ryan's vision of an underwater utopia has failed miserably.

In the first Bioshock game you start off in a plane crash and there happens to be a huge tower sticking out of the ocean in the middle of nowhere. The tower leads you to the underwater city of Rapture and something has gone wrong with the city and all of the people. Everyone has lost their minds and are killing anything that moves in order to survive. The most prized possession are plasmids. Plasmids rewrite you DNA and give you powers like fireballs and the ability to move things without touching them. The fastest way to get these powers is to find Adam and the “Little Sisters” who carry it. There are not a lot of direct boss battles in the game but each Little Sister is being protected by huge body guards called Big Daddys. These walking power houses are boss battles them self and there are a few dozen in the game. You can avoid them but you will not be able to get as much Adam to power up your and buy plasmids. The dynamic between the two of them is the key to the game.

In Bioshock 2 you get to play the Big Daddy and your goal is to find out who has restarted the Little Sister program. Even though you are the power house from the first game there are other Big Daddy’s and now Big Sisters throughout Rapture. It is not exactly clear how you are alive and who brought you back to life but it is clear that someone is trying to use the evils of Raptures past for their own gain. Bioshock 2 is a whole new game. You are in a different part of the city and there are new plasmids and new foes that are just as creative as the first game. We do like the new weapons and now you can duel wield weapons. In the first game you could only use the plasmids or gun/melee but here you can use both at the same time and it adds something new to the game. An outstanding sequel to the first Bioshock and we never got tired of the playing once and continue to this day to replay the story.

Both games are fun and you never want to stop playing them. This is one of the best bundle packs of all time. Plus, there is over $40 worth of bonus content included. Each game has tons of hours of gameplay the first time through and a extremely high replay value. Having been through each game several times we can safety say we would still play them again. We wish there was a Rapture theme park that is how much we love what they have done with this series. Easy buy at an new game $60.00 plus price tag. Make no mistake this game series will take chances and do things that other video games are not doing and it pays off in every way for both of these games!
