New Super Mario Bros. Wii Review | September 7, 2013
Nintendo Wii Exclusive Title

We were a little afraid when Super Mario went into 3D on the Nintendo 64 for the first time that there would no longer be any 2D side-scrolling platformers from Nintendo with the Mario name. We were astounded when we saw the first commercial for New Super Mario Bros Wii and any 2D Mario platformer is still a main reason to buy a Nintendo gaming system. We are all lifelong games here at Level Gaming Ground and the amount of time spent playing Super Mario Bros 3 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario World on our Super Nintendo was the reason why we have no memories of playing outside when these games came out. Our expectations were extremely high and Nintendo did not disappoint. We could not have been happier with the game from World 1-1all the way through to the hidden secret World 9.

It has been a really long time since you can play co-op or multiplayer in a Super Mario game. Here you can have up to four players at the same time or you can play one, two or three players. The game is equally fun from one player to four players. There are nine worlds to play eight regular and one hidden with a grand total of 80 levels to play. The game’s controls and camera work perfectly, not a single problem not a single time. It did not matter how many people were playing. It is by far one of the best things we have ever played. For Nintendo to make a new game in what is most likely the most popular game series in history of video games and have it be different plus still feel familiar and welcoming at the same time is phenomenal. We even tried to find something to complain about but New Super Mario Bros Wii is marvelous from start to finish.

The uniqueness of each boss battle in each castle works very well here. The differences do not feel forced and every time you fail you just want to go back through the castle and try once more. One of the best features is if you are having trouble with any castle or levels you can easily stock pile lives and items to make it easier on you. Being able to get 99 lives in nothing new in Mario Bros game but also being able to fill up with 99 mushrooms is. We love this feature and used it many times in areas we kept getting stuck in. The game adds some really unique features with the controls and is one of the very few games that the Wii controller is used right. Just buy this game and remember why you started gaming in the first place and enjoy the crazy final battle with Bowser.
