Rayman Legends Review | September 17, 2013
Xbox, Windows, PlayStation, Nintendo

Rayman Legends is a 2D plattformer that was supposed to be released as a launch title or close to a launch title when the Nintendo Wii U first hit stores. It was also going to be an exclusive Wii U title. Then it got pushed back and then got pushed back again. Finally Ubisoft announced that it was going to be on the Xbox 360 and PS3 also and now it is a PS4 and Xbox One title. It does not matter what system you play this game on it was worth the wait. This single player or mutiplayer title could be the best 2D platformer ever made for any system!

As gamers we may not like it when release dates get moved but if a great game like Rayman Legends is the result developers take your time. The return to 2D platform games has been impressive. Several series have been returning to their roots and we want more. There are over 120 different levels to play and each are entertaining, not a single level is boring. Each of them bring something different, there are levels where you get to go slow and set up how you want to get from point to point. Then there are the fast paced levels and we mean classic Sega Sonic the Hedgehog fast paced levels too. You don’t have time to plan you have to just keep moving because something is chasing you or the platforms are falling and you have to keep up. There are no lives and no clock to worry about. You can just keep going until you get it right. There are several levels that are extremely challenging and most of them are extra levels after you go through the story to unlock and you want to spend the time to unlock them.

The HD graphics on this game is outstanding. Everything is bright and sharp even when there were dozens and dozens the things moving all at the same time. The backgrounds are so eye catching that we kept on falling to our deaths because we wanted to watch what was going on. This brilliant beautiful display of graphics hit its stride during boss battles. This game has some of the best boss battles we have every played in a 2D platformer and could be in our favorites of all time. They are so good and unique, we wish that there were more of them. The game also adds several levels from Rayman Origins. We are not sure if they were levels left over from that game but we don’t care because they are even more fun being added as unlockables in Rayman Legends. There are a lot of things to find and secrets to figure out giving Rayman Legends a huge amount of gameplay the first time through and replay is very high.

The integration of the Wii U gamepad is the thing we loved the most about this game. The game uses the touch pad as a tool and not just a controller, we understand why this game was a Wii U exclusive at first. If you are using Smart Glass on your Xbox there have been several complaints that the controls are not sensitive enough and it just does not work well. For the Wii U owners no problems besides keeping the gamepad battery charged. This game works in single player or up to five players in co-op, even the music is really good. A nice mix or hits you will recognize and original music. Worth every penny regardless of price and you should own it. Sales happen often so keep checking!
